Don't you find that colour whether it is in food, life and around us, just makes us feel so much better?
Although much research has shown that a Mediterranean diet is one of the best ways to eat for health and well-being, my favourite part of this lifestyle is the colours.
Colour can change our lives
Fruit and Vegetables are abundant in colour and with these colours comes an array of phytonutrients and antioxidants that work within our body to reduce oxidative stress caused by diet, lifestyle, and environment and help to support our bodies system to function at its best.
These antioxidants help to mop up the nasties that our body needs to get rid of.
Each food colour group can help to support different areas of the body but combining these colours onto one plate is just one way to support your body from the inside out.
Did you know??
That eating a variety of plant based wholefoods and colourful foods at each meal has been shown to reduce incidences of type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity and even some forms of cancer.
Don't stick with the same foods each week, try new vegetables and fruit, small portions of many different varieties is better than big portions of 1 or 2 varieties.
So next time you are shopping, check your trolley and look at the different colours that you can add to your plate.
Why not count how many different fruit and vegetables you eat each week, you'll be surprised!!
Take up the rainbow challenge and see how many different whole plant based foods you can add into your meals!!
