with all this time at home, this is the best opportunity to get kids in the kitchen and it doesn’t mean complicated recipes, but starting off with simple foods and drinks can really help to boost their confidence and get them ready to tackle the bigger recipes.
Smoothies are always a good bet with each kids and this super green machine smoothie is a firm favourite in our house and the best thing isn’t the fact that you can mix and match the ingredients. Don’t feel you only have to use pear, or spinach, why not add Apple, kiwi or kale, and even some protein rich peanut butter. We normally add in soaked oats to boost the protein Andy complex carbohydrates content so that we can have a good amount of energy over a longer period of time.
With some cupboards looking bare and the lockdown, this is the best time to use up what we have.
So using this recipe as the base, you can create a mega nutrient packed drink that tastes delicious and creamy but make sure you don’t opt out of the veggies as these will really help to support the immune system.
Super Green Machine Smoothie
1 pear chopped
2 large handfuls of spinach
1 heaped tbsp almond butter
1/4 cup soaked oats (optional)
In a blender (we use a nutribullet) add the pear, avocado, spinach, date and almond butter along with approx 1/2-3/4 cup milk Andy blend until nice and smooth.
You can even add in some ice cubes to make it cold like a milkshake.
