Homemade loaded hummus
Most shop bought hummus uses inflammatory oils such as vegetable, sunflower or rapeseed oil, even the ones that say extra virgin olive oil!
So why are these bad?
Unlike the name, vegetable oils do not come from vegetables, infact they are extracted from plants using either a chemical solvent or oil mill. Then they are often purified, refined, and sometimes chemically altered but touted as being health and even used in margarine and labeled “heart-healthy” but this is not the case!
Both omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids are essential fatty acids, meaning that you need some of them in your diet because your body can’t produce them. But too much omega-6 relative to omega-3 may contribute to chronic inflammation which appears to be in the standard diet! This increase in inflammation increases risk of obesity, heart disease, arthritis, and inflammatory bowel disease.
Opt for good quality oils such as extra virgin olive oil loaded with healthy fats and polyphenols, avocado oil, olive oil and coconut oil which support gut health, brain health, heart health, liver and hormonal balance!
